On both the northern and southern extreme ends of the island are shallow areas that are constantly shifting due to currents and hurricanes. YIANNI'S GREEK CUISINE

In the evening, the aroma of Mediterranean spices and seafood dishes wafts from restaurants. Gift shops line Dodecanese Boulevard, selling sponges as well as soaps, tee shirts, hats, and other knick knacks. Hawkers still make a living here, too, their stalls opened to the foot traffic to sell cruise excursions like the one we’re about to take. Our dolphin cruise line offers trips for the sensitive moments in life as well. If you've recently lost a loved one, we can provide the proper send-off as you scatter his or her ashes at sea.

We listened to the safety speech, boarded the boat, and pushed away from the dock.

I'm an introverted book-lover who generally prefers nature and animals to people so you won't often find me at theme parks or crowded beaches. Instead, I share hiking adventures, kayaking adventures, Florida history and historic sites, and small towns. And because we could all use a luxurious place to rest, I plan to share more upscale hotels, spas, and wellness resorts in the future. Anclote Key Preserve State Park is an uninhabited island three miles from Tarpon Springs and only accessible by boat. It still stands and warns boats of the shallow waters around the island.

During each of our dolphin cruise tours, you'll be on the lookout for dolphins, manatees and sea turtles. There's also a chance to see rare birds like the bald eagle, piping plover and American oystercatcher. Looking for a little Romance or just the most relaxing way to end the day? We will cruise down the Anclote River into the Gulf of Mexico. Our captain will narrate the entire trip where you will learn about the history of Tarpon Springs and the famous Sponge Docks.
